With all the talk of love around Valentine’s Day, we can get distracted from the greatest love we will ever experience: God’s love!
Learning more about God’s love for us, and sharing it with others, is a key part of our Christian walk.
These Valentine’s Day prayer points are about living out God’s love, and incorporate scripture to help us focus on God’s ideas about love, and not our own. Going to God in prayer to ask Him to help us share His love with others is a great idea, as it reminds us that we often need His strength and love to truly love others.
Use the prayer points to pray through during your own personal prayer time, or share it with others during a ministry event, a prayer meeting, Bible Study, or family devotions.
Valentine’s Day Prayer Points for Living Out God’s Love
Pray for love from God to love others. “Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8
Ask God for strength to follow Jesus’ example of love. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
Pray to love and serve one another. “For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom for gain to the flesh, but through love be servants to one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” Galatians 5:13-14
Ask God to help you be faithful in loving others. “And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
Pray that you will put others before yourself. “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good. In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another.” Romans 12:9-10
Ask God to help you walk in love every day. “Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.” Colossians 3:14
Pray for a love for others that honors God. “Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Valentine’s Day Prayer for Living Out God’s Love
Dear God,
As we reflect on love this Valentine’s Day, we thank You for the best love of all: Your love for us! You are so gracious and merciful to love us so much. We are humbled and grateful for Your love.
We ask for Your help today in loving others. It can be easy to love some people, and hard to love others. Help us to follow the example of Your love as we love others.
May our love for others be a testimony of Your love!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
