Things to Thank God For: 75+ Suggestions
There are millions of things that we can thank God for each day, from the breath we breathe, to an unexpected bountiful blessing.
But sometimes it can be hard to think of things to be thankful for. Whether it is an extended period of discouragement, truly challenging circumstances, or not having formed a habit of thankfulness, we can all need some help from time to time in being grateful to God.
Scripture reminds us to be thankful in Philippians 4:4.
“Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!”
We can always find something for which we can rejoice in the Lord. Whether we rejoice in one of His wonderful characteristics, or are thankful for one of His many blessings to us, we honor Him when we rejoice.
These suggestions are a great starting point for making your own list of things you are thankful for. At the end of each section, I’ve added an additional prompt that can help you think of additional things in each category.

Family and Relationships
Supportive people in your life can often be your go-to when you want to thank God for something. But it can also be difficult for you when you feel alone or isolated.
If this is a struggle, you may want to think about the supportive people who were a part of your life at some point.
Maybe you don’t see them anymore because of distance, circumstances, or because the relationship was for a season. Even if a person has passed away, you can still thank God for the role they played in your life.
This list is not exhaustive of all the relationships in your life, but it can help you in thinking of who you are thankful for.
- Significant Other/Spouse
- Children
- Grandchildren
- Parents
- Siblings
- Grandparents
- Close friends
- Mentors
- Supportive and encouraging people

Well-being and health
Being thankful for good physical health is something that many people can do, but not everyone can do. A lot of people struggle with health issues and find it hard to be grateful for something that seems to get in the way of their goals and dreams.
Yet we can always find something to be thankful for! God did not promise us trouble-free lives when we became Christians. He said He would always be with us and that He would sustain us.
We might not always feel His presence or His provision, as we don’t always recognize these things when they don’t show up according to our timetable or preferences.
Finding ways to be thankful, even when facing health challenges, can help your outlook during a very difficult time. So even if it is hard, try to choose even one thing to be thankful for.
- Physical health
- Mental and emotional health
- Strength for each day
- Physical mobility and senses
- Medical care
- Refreshing sleep
- Healing

Provision and Material Blessings
In the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6, verse 11 says, “Give us today our daily bread.”
Sometimes, it can be hard to be thankful for today’s provision when we want not only today’s bread, but also tomorrow’s bread, and bread for the next full year, as well as a particular type and brand of bread.
This type of outlook can decrease our gratitude as we feel like God has fallen short of what we want Him to do. While it’s OK to be disappointed in life, it’s the wrong perspective to think that we are entitled to God fulfilling our wish list.
Being thankful for material blessings, even if they seem very basic to you, is important. Give thanks to God for each of the items on this list which you have access to today.
- Food to eat
- Water to drink
- A place to stay at night
- Clothing
- Job or source of income
- Material possessions
- The ability to bless others
Gratitude prompt: Max Lucado has been quoted as saying, “What if you woke up this morning and had only the things you thanked God for yesterday?” Reflect on this quote as you give thanks for the material blessings God has provided.
Experiences and Opportunities
There are aspects of life, small or large, that can make such a difference in how a person enjoys life. It can be a passion they have for a subject or activity. Or, they might be great at living in the moment and enjoying the people around them.
These experiences and opportunities might not be material blessings, but can be experiences that are impactful. Consider these when thinking of how God has blessed you.
- Travel
- Education
- Creativity
- Kindness received from others
- Opportunities to serve others
- Sharing joy and laughter
- The ability to overcome challenges

The Simple Joys of Daily Life
It can be easy to be too busy to notice, let alone appreciate, the simple joys of daily life.
There are small things that we can choose to do or notice that make each day even just a little bit better.
These are just a few details in life that we can be thankful for.
- Pleasant weather
- Sunrises and sunsets
- The sound of birds singing
- The beauty of nature
- A cozy cup of coffee or tea
- A good book
- A refreshing nap
- Music

Gifts for Serving Others
Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”
One of the ways we honor God is in our service to Him. He has given us strengths, gifts, and talents to serve Him.
While we usually won’t have every item on this list (which obviously can’t include every gift), God gives us gifts that help us bless and serve others.
What gifts has God given you? Thank Him for those today.
- Talents and gifts
- Resilience
- Strength and perseverance
- Patience and kindness
- Wisdom and discernment
- The ability to forgive
- The capacity to empathize
- The potential to learn new skills
- The opportunity to bring comfort to others
Gratitude prompt: What gifts in other people have blessed you? Thank God for those gifts.
God’s Creation
There is undeniable beauty in God’s creation.
From the scene of a beautiful mountain vista to the science of how a baby grows in the mother’s womb, God’s design is intricate and impressive.
We can find many things to be thankful for when we look at God’s creation. Here are just a few.
- The changing seasons

- Animals
- Trees
- Mountains
- Flowers
- The night sky
- A calm lake

Printable List of Things to Thank God For + Gratitude Diary
There are a lot of gratitude journals out there, and I’ve used some of them in the past. I really admire people who have gratitude journals or gratitude jars or other ways of comprehensively tracking their gratitude. I am really glad that practice works for them.
I’ve found that I need a more laid-back version of gratitude tracking, that doesn’t make me feel like I have to fill it out everyday or all at once.
I designed this simple grid worksheet gratitude diary, that you can download for free.
It also includes a printable list of 75+ things to thank God for.
If you would like a few more options in your gratitude diary, I have a version where I’ve also included decorated versions of the worksheet, as well as an alternative title, “Gratitude Journal”, that might fit better for what you want to use it for. That version is available for purchase in my Etsy, Gumroad, and Teachers Pay Teachers stores.
Prayer to Thank God for HIs Blessings
Dear Lord,
Psalm 118:24 reminds us, “This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!”
We give you thanks, O God, for Your many blessings in this life, including this day! You have given it to us as Your gracious gift.
May we be grateful to You each day for the ways that You have provided for us, from our daily bread, to simple joys, and to unexpected blessings.
May we never overlook that which You have given us.
Thank You for all that You are, and all that You do.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
As Christians, let’s never forget the ultimate source of all good things: our loving Father in heaven. He is the one who sustains us, provides for us, and gives us hope for the future. To Him be all the glory!
Remember, gratitude isn’t just about saying “thank you” for the big things in life. It’s also about appreciating the little blessings that often go unnoticed.
And when we take the time to reflect on all the good in our lives, we open ourselves up to living a more grateful life. So let’s make gratitude a regular habit and see how God uses it to transform our hearts and minds!
