Prayer for the New Month of September

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this month of new beginnings. Each day You give us a fresh start, full of your new mercies (Lamentations 3:22-23). May we live every moment by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We pray for this month, that we will embrace the new things You have set for us. Please bless us with good health, for ourselves, our friends, and each family member.

May we be grateful for every good thing that comes from Your hand, almighty God! May we praise You and glorify You each day.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Blessings for Our Schools

September Prayers (3) picture of school with school sign

Whether school started in your area this month or the past month, it’s never the wrong time to ask for God’s blessings for our schools.

The children of today are not only our future. They are fully part of our present, and we should be supporting their personal and spiritual growth in the Lord.

Since school can be such a large part of a young person’s life, we need to be praying for God to bless these schools with safety, godly leaders, and freedom from harmful influences.

Here are some prayer points to ask God to bless our schools.

Prayer Points for Blessings for Our Schools

Pray that students and staff both will honor the Lord. “And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men.” Colossians 3:23

Ask the Lord to strengthen the students. “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.” Ephesians 6:10

Pray that students will seek Him as their refuge. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

September Prayers (8) Psalm 46 1

Ask God to protect the minds of the students. “Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ.” Colossians 2:8

Pray that students will grow in Christ. “Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

Prayer for Blessings for Our Schools

Dear Lord,

You love our children. As much as we love them, You love them even more!

We ask for Your protection and blessing on the schools in our community. Equip them with the resources and volunteers they need today. Give the teachers and staff the strength for each day.

Please help them to be faithful at educating these students with skills they will need in life. Stop any educator that might lead these students astray.

We pray for those who homeschool their children, that they will be encouraged and equipped today.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Comfort for the Elderly

September Prayers (4) closeup of young hands holding elderly hands

In a culture that values youth to an extreme at times, the needs and concerns of older people can be dismissed as irrelevant or unimportant. This is simply not the case.

Every person matters! Plus, older people often have much to offer in terms of experience and insight gathered over a long life.

If you are younger and get frustrated because they don’t understand you, take a moment and try to understand them. If you are older and feel out of touch with the younger generations, remember that their childhoods were remarkably different than yours.

These prayer points for comfort for the elderly remind us of their worth in our eternal God’s eyes and encourage respect among the generations.

Prayer Points for Comfort for the Elderly

Pray to see older age as an advantage. “Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.” Proverbs 16:31

Ask God to help you continue to grow in Him for as long as you live. “That older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in perseverance: and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good.” Titus 2:2-3

Thank our living God for being a defender of widows. “A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” Psalm 68:5

September Prayers (9) Psalm 68 5

Pray to honor your parents. “Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.” Proverbs 23:22

Ask God to help you continue to share His Word throughout your life. “God, you have taught me from my youth.  Until now, I have declared your wondrous works. Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.” Psalm 71:17-18

Prayer for Comfort for the Elderly

O Lord,

Thank you for Your care and comfort of the elderly. They are a treasure in Your Kingdom!

We pray for their protection and their encouragement today. Help them to feel loved and valued in their families and communities.

If they do not know You personally, help them see their need for You. Draw each person to You today.

In the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Watching Our Words

September Prayers (5) letter shapes with the word - words - in the center

What power our words have! James 3:9-10 tells us, “With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God. Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.”

Our words make a difference, but holding back the wrong words proves to be difficult for so many of us! Proverbs 17:28 reminds us that “Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.” It’s often better not to say anything rather than whatever comes to mind.

Let our Good Shepherd guide you as you choose your words. Pray through these prayer points on watching your words today!

Prayer Points for Watching Our Words

Pray that you will be kind to your enemies instead of finding the perfect retort. “If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Proverbs 25:21-22 WEBBE

Ask God to help you hold your tongue. “For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind; but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:7-8

Pray that you will praise God instead of complaining or insulting someone. “My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long.” Psalm 35:28

September Prayers (10) Psalm 35 28

Ask God to help you bless people with your words. “Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29

Pray that you will not be harmful or dishonest with your words. “Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.” Psalm 34:13

Dear Lord,

We are humbled when we think of the power our words have. We surrender our words to You, and ask that You use our words for Your purposes.

Keep us from lying, insulting, complaining, and foolishness that does not honor You. Help us to encourage, edify, and exhort others with our words.

May You, the God of Wisdom, help us be wise with our words!

In the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Humility

September Prayers (6) hands raised to sky

Being humble or seeking how to be less prideful doesn’t often come naturally. We want to assert how good we are or seek the praise of other people.

Yet pride is mentioned as a major stumbling block in the Bible. An overinflated view of who you are, especially before God, does not usually go well.

When we have a good view of who we are – a beloved child of God – we don’t need all the other ways that we try to build ourselves up and put others down.

Pray through these prayer points for humility.

Prayer Points for Humility

Pray against pride and arrogance. “Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

Ask God to keep your thoughts on Him. “The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God.” Psalm 10:4

Pray for the grace of God in your life. “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’” James 4:6

Ask God to keep you from being prideful. “A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.” Proverbs 29:23

Pray for a kind and humble heart. “Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance.” Colossians 3:12

September Prayers (11) Colossians 3 12

Ask the Lord to help you see the value of other people. “Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself.” Philippians 2:3

Prayer for Humility

Dear Lord,

We struggle with humility. Sometimes it’s not having enough of it and thinking we are better than everyone else. Other times, we have a humility that comes from thinking we aren’t loved or valued, which isn’t true either. We are precious in your sight, and so is everyone else.

Give us the right attitude when we struggle with pride. Show us the truth of who we are in You. Convict us of destructive pride and arrogance.

May You, not me, be glorified in my life!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Courage in the Face of Trials

September Prayers (7) person rappelling down a tall rock

Were you ever afraid of a “spooky” area in your house growing up, because it was too shadowy or loud or unknown? Maybe it was a basement or closet or under the bed. It was to be avoided at all costs.

Don’t we treat our fears the same way? We may be stuck to one place, not able to move on our own. We can avoid the scary spots of our lives out of fears that loom larger than they really are. And we can lack the confidence to check the reality of what we dread.

The truth is, we always have our God with us! We don’t need to cower when we encounter hard times, or something we fear. We can instead face these challenges with courage and confidence.

Pray through these prayer points for courage in the face of trials.

Prayer Points for Courage in the Face of Trials

Pray that you will know that Jesus is with you. “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.” Matthew 14:27

Ask God to help you believe in His promises. “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them, for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 WEBBE

Pray that you will not fear the actions or words of other people. “So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

September Prayers (12) Hebrews 13 6

Ask God to help you persevere. “Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14 WEBBE

Pray to trust in what God has for you. “Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong!” 1 Corinthians 16:13

A Prayer for Courage in the Face of Trials

Dear God,

Thank You that we can have courage in You. Even when circumstances seem beyond us, they are not beyond You!

Help us to set aside our fears for courage in You! May we trust in You as we face difficult challenges.

Thank you for these reminders about courage from Your Word.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

September sometimes is considered the start of another new year, with the start of school for many people, the start of a new season, and another chance to change things up.

But it can also be a painful time for some, as they remember difficult times from past Septembers, such as the events of September 11th, 2001, and pray for themselves or on behalf of the families of the victims. Or it could be a challenging situation you are dealing with right now.

If September is a difficult time for you for any reason, please remember that God is with you always. You are not alone. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).

God has given you September for His purposes. Use this month to seek His will in your prayer life in your September prayers. Prioritize spiritual growth in this ninth month of the year.

May God open doors for you as you follow His will. May He show you the best way to go. May September be a month of new beginnings into God’s perfect plan for you.

May it be for you a happy new month – September is another opportunity to grow closer to God! May He bring new life to stagnant areas of your walk with Him. Use your September prayers to draw closer to Him in prayer and worship each day.

Sharing is caring!
