Quieting Your Heart

quieting your heart - bible with hearts coming out of it

My brain was running in a million different directions. A packed calendar, possible problems on the horizon, and a lack of control over any of it unsettled my heart.

I responded not with prayer, but with worry, irritability, and trying to get back on course by my own strength. The next day, I asked God to forgive me and to quiet my heart.

These three verses gave me encouragement to trust the Lord for what lay ahead. He could bring peace to my worried heart.

Three Bible Verses to Quiet Your Heart

psalm 37 7 a

Psalm 37:7a

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Psalm 37:7a ESV

For everything that happened that day, God had an answer. Yes, He listens to our prayers, but He also wants us to be quiet and rest and wait for Him to act.

We needn’t struggle and strive for the matters we have trusted to Him. We can follow what He has told us to do and trust Him for the rest.

matthew 11 28

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NIV

When we look at our plans for our lives, we can get overwhelmed. Sometimes, this is because we are focused on the wrong priorities and doing things God doesn’t want us to do.

When we are coming to God with our plans, spending time with Him through prayer and study, we are more likely to have our lives reflect what He wants.

psalm 23 1 2

Psalm 23:1-2

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.” Psalm 23:1-2 NIV

These verses can serve as a prompt to remember God’s provision for what we need, not necessarily what we want. God will provide the rest and refreshment needed, but we need to follow Him to that place.

Often, we are often out running about, trying to find peace, rest, and quiet from a myriad of unfaithful sources. God is more than capable of providing these for us.

Lord, I thank you that You quiet our hearts. Help us to turn to You for our peace. May our lives reflect You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen
