Prayer for the Beautiful New Month of May
O God,
We are thankful for the fresh start of a new month! We come to Your throne of grace and ask Your blessing upon the month of May.
May we see each good thing as a gift from You, our dear God! May we embrace the new opportunities You give us, and serve You with great devotion.
Whether we see lots of success or struggle through difficult times, we pray that we would bring You all glory and honor and praise!
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
5 Prayers for the Month of May
Our hope for the new month should be to walk closely with Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. The best way to start is with prayer!
No matter what happened in the past month, we have the new beginnings of the month ahead. Use this new start to reflect on how God would have you serve Him this month.
These different prayer themes are a way to help you cover different prayer topics than what you might pray each day. These prayer points are included in the prayer planner at the end of this post, and are a great way to pray with a group, family members, or a dear friend.
Prayer for Our Nation
In the United States, the first Thursday in May is often observed as a National Day of Prayer. This is a proclamation by the government declaring a day of prayer for our nation.
No matter what nation you live in, you should be praying for your leaders and the people of your nation. We need to be praying with hope that God will turn their hearts toward Him. These Bible verses illustrate prayer points you can pray for any nation.
If you are looking for prayer points for a church National Day of Prayer gathering or an Independence Day/4th of July celebration, these prayer points might be a good start. Feel free to use them at your local church.
You’ll find a printable version of this as a prayer sheet in the free prayer planner you can download at the end of this blog post.
Prayer Points for Our Nation
Pray that people will turn away from sin and towards God. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Ask God to help your nation to walk humbly with Him. “He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 WEBBE
Pray that the people of your nation will be heavenly-minded. “Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
Ask God to keep you faithful in prayer for your leaders. “I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Pray that people will love the law of the Lord. “Behold, I long for your precepts! Revive me in your righteousness.” Psalm 119:40
Ask God to help you value the peace of God over your culture’s version of peace. “I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Prayer for Our Nation
Almighty God,
We come before you as a nation, asking for your mercy for our nation.
Please help us as a nation to honor You and reflect Your love. Help us to be a nation of justice, righteousness, and compassion.
Work in the hearts of our leaders to serve You and give You the glory!
In the holy name of Jesus, Amen.
Guidance for New Believers
If you are a new believer, I am so happy for you! Becoming a Christian is the best decision I ever made in my life, and I pray that it will be the same for you.
Keep praying and find ways to get into God’s Word. My pastor recommends the Design for Discipleship series by the Navigators.
If you have been a Christian for a number of years, let’s be faithful in praying for new believers and supporting them as they learn more about God.
These prayer points are meant to be prayed for new believers, whether that’s you, or on someone else’s behalf.
Prayer Points for Guidance for New Believers
Pray to understand the gift of salvation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Ask God to remind you that you are a new creation. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
Pray to put old sinful habits and ways behind you. “Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, think this way. If in anything you think otherwise, God will also reveal that to you.” Philippians 3:13-15
Ask God to help you mature in your faith. “Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow.” 1 Peter 2:1-2
Pray for a love for God’s Word, to help you grow in your Christian walk. “Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Prayer for Guidance for New Believers
O Lord God,
Thank You for loving us so much that You made a way for our salvation, the blood of Jesus paying our debt. We would have been lost without You.
Help all believers to grow in You each day, especially those who are new believers. Give them a firm foundation in You!
With each new day, may we share the joy and hope we find in You with others!
In the name of our Lord Jesus, Amen.
Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Have you felt so wronged that you imagine that your life will never be the same? That you will never be able to have the same relationship or even life as before?
Some offenses are easy to forgive.. And some people forgive easier than others. Maybe you struggle with forgiving people. But hanging onto unforgiveness can turn into a long journey through bitterness.
It is better to forgive quickly, but sometimes one event is so significant that unforgiveness creeps back in. Keep forgiving! The Lord urges us to forgive as we have been forgiven.
Reconciliation to someone can mean different things in different situations. The offense may have changed how much you trust someone or what you expect of them. Pray for wisdom in this area, and get discreet counsel from trusted Christians if you aren’t sure about this.

These prayer points about forgiveness and reconciliation can help you work through your journey to forgiveness and reconciliation.
Prayer Points for Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Pray to follow God’s example of forgiveness. “For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.” Psalm 86:5
Ask God to help you not keep accounts of how you have been wronged. “[Love] doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil.” 1 Corinthians 13:5
Pray against unforgiveness, that it might not be used against you in your Christian walk. “Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:10-11
Ask God to help you reconcile relationships where possible. “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24
Pray to get along with people for the unity of the body of Christ. “I exhort Euodia, and I exhort Syntyche, to think the same way in the Lord. Yes, I beg you also, true partner, help these women, for they labored with me in the Good News with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.” Philippians 4:2-3
Prayer for Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Dear Lord,
We come before You today, surrendering the tough situations that are hard to forgive. We lay before You the relationships that need reconciliation.
We pray to reflect You, that by the Holy Spirit we can forgive others as You have forgiven us. We pray that You will reconcile these relationships according to Your will. Give us wisdom as we navigate reconciled relationships.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Renewal and Spiritual Awakening
If you’ve struggled with your Christian walk and wonder if it will ever change, reach out to the Lord for renewal and spiritual awakening.
God hears our cries and answers us! He does not want us to be stagnant in our spiritual growth. Rather, He wants us to grow closer to Him each day.
Ask the Lord, by the Holy Spirit, to open your eyes to His will and His guidance for you. Pray for refreshment and renewal in your life, that you would feel closer to Him today.
Prayer Points for Renewal and Spiritual Awakening
Rejoice that you have been regenerated and renewed by our Lord. “But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior.” Titus 3:4-6
Pray that God will help you to be the new person He created you to be. “And that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” Ephesians 4:23-24
Ask God to renew you each day. “Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator.” Colossians 3:9-10
Pray for transformation by the renewing of your mind. “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
Thank God for renewing you. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalm 103:2-5 KJV
Prayer for Renewal and Spiritual Awakening
Dear Lord,
Thank You that You are so merciful and faithful that we are renewed in our hearts and minds each day. We are new creations in You, and don’t have to cling to our past or our old ways.
Please refresh and renew me today. Awaken my heart to what You have for me today. May I faithfully serve You with excellence.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Guidance for Youth and Students
The longer it’s been since you were a child or teenager, the harder it is to remember how it was to be that age. While some things have improved for younger people, it’s harder than ever to be a young person who walks with the Lord.
Distractions, temptations, and naysayers seem to be around every corner, or swipe in an app. We need to stop complaining about younger people and be praying for them instead!
These prayer points cover praying for guidance for youth and students. Pray for young people in your family, in your church, or local community.
Prayer Points for Guidance for Youth and Students
Pray for students to be strong by God’s power when facing temptation. “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.” Ephesians 6:10
Ask God to strengthen young people to live godly lives. “Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Pray that students will hope and wait in the Lord. “Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14 WEBBE
Ask God to help students to choose their words carefully. “A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth. The work of a man’s hands shall be rewarded to him.” Proverbs 12:14
Pray that students will read the Bible, and let it guide them. “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
Prayer for Guidance for Youth and Students
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the younger generations, for their creativity, their compassion, and their innovation. They are a gift to us. We repent of complaining about them, and ask that You help us to be more faithful in praying for them.
Guide them in Your ways, O Lord! Help them to connect with You. May You be at the center of their lives.
Help them to grow closer to You each day.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
