24 Prayer Points for Spiritual Growth and Character
Imagine if a man got married but didn’t move in with his wife, didn’t talk with her, and didn’t change any of his routines or habits. While you might technically be able to call him married, it wouldn’t be a healthy relationship.
We want to have a healthy relationship with God, and should want to grow spiritually and have strong character that honors Him.
These prayer points for spiritual growth and character have four themes:
- Growing in the Fruits of the Spirit
- Being Light in the Darkness
- Walking in Humility
- Living with Integrity
Pray through these on your own, or with others, to seek spiritual growth and strength of character.

Growing in the Fruits of the Spirit
Pray that your relationship with Jesus Christ is evident by the fruit of the Spirit.
Ask God to help you live by the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Pray that you will abide in Christ, living by His power and strength. “Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5
Ask God to help you grow in self-control and perseverance. “Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge; and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness; and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love. For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:5-8
Pray that you will live a life that pleases God. “That you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:10
Ask God to help you live a life of love. “With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
Pray that your actions will reflect well on the Lord. “By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree produces good fruit, but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit. A good tree can’t produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t grow good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:16-20
Being Light in the Darkness
We belong to Jesus, our living hope, and can reflect Him to others. Ask Him to help you be His light in the darkness of this world.
Pray that the Lord will help you shine His light before others. “You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Praise God that His light is not overcome by darkness. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.” John 1:5
Ask God to help you persevere in walking as a child of His light. “For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8
Pray that God will grow you in living a life that honors Him. “Do all things without complaining and arguing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain. Philippians 2:14-16
Ask God to help you live as a child of His light, rejecting temptation to live in darkness. “You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5
Walking in Humility
As we strive to live Christ-honoring lives, we should be living not in pride but with a humble heart.
Pray that you will regard others more important than yourself. “Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.” Philippians 2:3-4
Ask God to help you humble yourself before Him. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10
Pray that you would not be too proud to listen to others. “Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility and subject yourselves to one another; for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:5-6
Ask God to help you with the temptation to exalt yourself. “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12
Pray for a heart that honors God. “Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance.” Colossians 3:12
Ask God to help you have a humble attitude in your Christian walk. “He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
Living with Integrity
We may not live a perfect life, but by Christ’s power, we can live a life that reflects Him. Pray through these scriptures about living with integrity.
Ask God to help you live a life of integrity, even when it is difficult. “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.” Psalm 25:21
Pray to live a life with a clear conscience. “Having a good conscience. Thus, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.” 1 Peter 3:16
Ask God to help you live a life that sets a good example. “In all things show yourself an example of good works. In your teaching, show integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility, and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.” Titus 2:7-8
Pray to lead with integrity. “The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.” Proverbs 11:3
Ask God to help your thoughts, actions, and attitudes honor Him. “Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
Pray that God will help you when you are tempted to lie. “Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator.” Colossians 3:9-10
Ask God to help you persevere in living with integrity. “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you. Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established. Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:23-27

One way to use these prayer sheets in your own quiet time is to read along in your own Bible (I like this Bible with wide margins) and write down who you are praying this verse for, along with the date and anything else you might want to write.
Some people also find it helpful to write down the verse in a quiet time notebook or prayer journal, with specific prayer requests or written-out prayers.
