Prayer for the New Month of March: 5 Prayer Themes
These 5 prayer themes for the new month of March cover grief, spiritual warfare, faith, salvation, and Christ/Easter. Most of these can be used anytime of the year, with the exception of Easter.
Easter falls in either March or April, depending on the year, so you can use it closer to the right date for that particular year.
There are prayer sheets in the prayer planner that would be good to use in a small group, Bible study, or prayer meeting. Including God’s Word in each prayer can help you stay faithful to God’s will and priorities.
Comfort for the Grieving
Almost everyone has lost someone close to them, and felt at a loss as they adjusted to life without that person.
We can find great comfort knowing that God sees us and will bring us through our grief. Pray through these scriptures as you pray for comfort for yourself or someone you know.
Prayer Points for Comfort for the Grieving
Pray to understand that nothing can separate us from the love of God. “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
The Lord grieved, as well. Ask Him to help you in the grief that He felt too. “Jesus wept.” John 11:35
Pray that you will find your hope is found in Jesus. “Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13
Be thankful that our dear God is near to the brokenhearted. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 WEBBE
Pray for perspective to see that our treasure is in heaven. “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
Prayer for Comfort for the Grieving
Dear Heavenly Father,
You know how our hearts break when we lose someone we love. You know that pain, as well, and can help us through this pain.
Thank You that You are near us with Your comfort and strength. We are grateful that nothing can separate us from Your perfect love.
Help us to hope in You today! Let us store our treasure in heaven, and not here on earth.
We love You! In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Protection Against Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual warfare isn’t always a concept that people are familiar with, but every person deals with it, Christian or not.
God wants us to follow Him, and all of heaven fights for us! But the devil often tries to make sin and even apathy look more fun and attractive.
While this is a simplified definition of spiritual warfare, it gives you an idea of what it is. As a young adult, I read Neil T. Anderson’s Victory over the Darkness, and found it very helpful in understanding what spiritual warfare is.
These prayer points use Scripture to help you pray for protection against spiritual warfare.
Prayer points for Protection Against Spiritual Warfare
Pray that you will be diligent and watchful against spiritual warfare. “Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Ask God to protect you from harmful spiritual forces. “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
Pray that God will help you be discerning. “Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1
Ask God to help you fill your mind with His Word and other godly things. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
Pray that you will be faithful in using the tools that God has given you. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11
Prayer Against Spiritual Warfare
O God,
We thank You that You are stronger than anything we could ever face! You are our rock.
Equip us today with the spiritual armor You have given us, that we would stand strong against the devil’s schemes.
Give us wisdom for what we face today, and help us not to trust in deceptive things.
Help us to overcome anything that is not of You!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Strengthening of Faith
Some days are harder than others to feel strong in the Lord. Other times, you might see areas where you want to have stronger convictions and faith in the Lord, but your faith isn’t quite there yet.
Thankfully, we can always call on our Lord God to strengthen our faith. He Himself is strong and faithful and can make us stronger and more faithful.
You can use these prayer points to pray for yourself, as well as friends and family members.
Use these prayer prompts as starting points for your prayers to strengthen your faith.
Prayer Points for Strengthening of Faith
Praise God for His faithfulness. “I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God. I sing praises to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel.” Psalm 71:22
Ask God to remind you to take refuge in His faithfulness. “He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91:4
Pray for perseverance in your faith. “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12
Ask God to help you trust Him in faith. “He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm.” Matthew 8:26
Pray that God will help your little bit of faith grow. “He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
Prayer for Strengthening of Faith
Almighty God,
Thank You for Your faithfulness to us. We would be lost without You! We pray that You would grow us in our faith.
Show us how to trust You more. Remind us of Your enduring love. Help us rejoice in Your faithful promises.
Help us to be strong in You each day!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Gratitude for the Gift of Salvation
If we had to earn our way to forgiveness, to heaven, to peace with God, we would never reach it. We would never be perfect, never do enough good things, never give enough.
Thankfully, we don’t have to do that! We only need to accept salvation as a free gift from God, when we ask Jesus to come into our heart and have a personal relationship with Him.
This prayer theme is meant to be a companion to the next prayer theme, Gratitude for Christ, and can be another resource you use for praying near Easter.
Be thankful for your salvation with these prayer prompts of thankfulness for salvation.
Prayer Prompts for Gratitude for the Gift of Salvation
Thank the Lord that you don’t need to earn your way to salvation, by the grace of God. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Acknowledge in prayer that salvation only belongs to the Lord Jesus. “Salvation belongs to the LORD. May your blessing be on your people. Selah.” Psalm 3:8 WEBBE
Praise God for being your rock. “He alone is my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. I will never be greatly shaken.” Psalm 62:2
Rejoice in the God of your salvation. “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD . I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” Habakkuk 3:18 WEBBE
Pray that you will continue to grow in your faith. “So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Philippians 2:12
Prayer for Gratitude for the Gift of Salvation
Dear Lord,
You have paid a debt we could never settle. We are thankful for Your mercy and compassion for us, that You made a way for our salvation.
We praise You, Jesus, for being our Savior. Our words cannot describe the extent of what You have done for us.
Help us to continue to grow in our faith, that we would bring You honor and glory.
In the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
Gratitude for Christ/Easter Prayer
Since the date of Easter varies from year to year, you may find that Easter is not in March this year, but April. But even if Easter isn’t this month, every day is a good day to be grateful for Christ.
These Bible verses walk us through some of the Easter story and remind us of what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Use these prayer prompts to be thankful in prayer to Jesus.
Prayer Points for Gratitude for Christ
Thank Jesus for willingly serving the Father. “He said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Please remove this cup from me. However, not what I desire, but what you desire.’” Mark 14:36
Be grateful for the sacrifice Jesus made for our sins. “Where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.” John 19:18
Reflect on Jesus forgiving the very ones crucifying Him. “ Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.’ Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.” Luke 23:34
Thank Jesus for His sacrifice on the cross. “Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.” Matthew 27:50
Thank God for the resurrection! “He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.” Matthew 28:6
Ask God to open doors for you to share the Good News. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20
Prayer of Gratitude for Christ
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for everything You did in Your ministry here on earth. You were fully God and fully man, and remained without sin so that You could be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
We thank You for paying the price for us, for doing the will of the Father, for being our Savior.
Help us to live our lives each day in gratitude for Your loving and sacrificial act.
Show us how to live in victory over sin, just as You had victory over the grave!
We ask these things in Your precious and Holy Name, Jesus!
Amen.
