Grandmothers hold a dear spot in our hearts! They bless our lives with love and thoughtfulness. Their unfailing support as they believe in us often makes the difference in tackling a challenge.
Proverbs 16:13 reminds us that “Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.” What a blessing it is to have a grandmother like that!
We can do something special for them by praying for them! We will look at 5 examples of a prayer for grandmothers, including a prayer for their health, for their spiritual growth, and their legacy.

Prayer for Grandmothers: 5 Helpful Sample Prayers
Many loving grandmothers are a blessing to their grandchildren, showing support and love in their lives. Most grandmothers don’t have the day to day responsibilities of parents, and may have gained perspective over the years to cherish each day.
We realize that not every grandmother plays that role in every grandchild’s life. They might even be an example of who the grandchild doesn’t want to be.
For those who have that type of relationship with their grandma, here are some suggestions.
Pray for your grandmother anyway. She may not be a blessing to you, but you can be a blessing to her. She might not “deserve” it, but neither do we deserve God’s mercy in our lives. Your prayers can make a difference in her life.
Another way to approach this is to pray for someone who is like a spiritual grandmother to you. She may be a family friend, an aunt, someone from work, or an older woman from church. She may have a long list of grandchildren or no grandchildren at all. You can bless her with your prayers.
Whether we are praying for a grandmother related to us, or a “chosen” grandmother, we can keep them in prayer for these key areas of their lives.
These prayers can be used to inspire your own prayers. Or you can pray along with these prayers, praying to God with a genuine heart.
Prayer for Health and Strength
As your grandmother grows older, it is difficult to see them struggle with health challenges. Even the strongest woman will slow down with age.
Instead of worrying, why not pray for her? We can trust God for His plan for her life. This prayer for grandmothers lifts up to God our concerns about her health and strength.
Dear Lord,
I love my grandmother so much! I thank You for her. She is a blessing in my life.
I ask for good health for my grandmother today. Whatever ailment she might have, I pray that You would have Your healing hand on her life.
May she have strength and vitality to go about her day, that she would fulfill Your will.
Please protect her and keep her safe today. May You guide her steps.

Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance
From your point of view, you might think that your grandmother has all the wisdom she needs! She always knows what to do when you ask her for advice. You benefit from her years of experience.
Yet, she faces new challenges each day. Even if you see her as a strong woman who can handle anything, she might be struggling with problems and not sure of what to do.
She might not have the same people to rely on, especially as life changes. She may be a new widow, or lost some of her support system as close friends or relatives move away or pass away.
This is a great opportunity to be in prayer for grandmothers. Pray for wisdom and guidance as she faces new situations or difficult decisions.
Dear God,
I come to You today to seek Your gentle wisdom for my grandma.
Your Word says in James 1:5, “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach.”
I ask for that wisdom for my grandmother. May You guide her by the power of Your Holy Spirit.
I also pray that as she dispenses her good advice for friends and family, that she will seek Your guidance and ultimately point them back to You and Your wisdom.
May this wisdom from the life of a godly woman reflect You, and be a blessing to others. May her influence extend into future generations.

Prayer for Spiritual Growth
A dear woman in her 90’s who we know spends much of her time in prayer. It is difficult for her to attend church often because of her health and strength challenges. She has decided the best way she can serve the Lord is to spend hours in prayer each day.
The example of this beautiful woman is just one of the ways that grandmothers can continue to grow in their faith. Grandmothers can persevere in growing in the Lord and serving Him, no matter their age.
O Lord,
I thank You for my grandmother and the example she has been to me in my Christian walk.
Today, I lift up her spiritual well-being. Please draw her closer to You each day. May she experience spiritual blessings today as she reads Your Word and spends time in prayer.
May she grow in her knowledge of the Scriptures. Please encourage her in her faithful prayers. I thank You for the prayer warrior she is for my family and for me.
I ask all of these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Prayer for Emotional and Mental Well-being
Today’s world can be worrisome to your grandmother. There are so many things that are different than when she grew up.
It can be easy to be fearful about the news stories she might watch. Plus, she may struggle to not worry about the people she loves so much.
These are just a couple of aspects that we can pray for our grandmothers as we lift up their emotional and mental well-being.
Dear God,
I lift up my grandmother to You. May she be blessed by You with joy and peace in her life. Please help her to know Your loving presence each day of her life.
When she is afraid, may she find comfort in the promises of Your Word.
Help her to focus on things that are true (Philippians 4:8). Please strengthen her mind. May her thoughts be filled with thankfulness and truth.

Prayer for Legacy and Influence
In 3rd John 1:4, the Apostle John says this of those following his example.
”I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in the truth.”
At some point in almost every person’s life, they consider their legacy. What will they be leaving to those that come after them, whether it is their children or future generations? What kind of difference will they have made once they have passed away?
Grandmothers may also consider this as well. At least some of them would count their greatest joy being their children having a close walk with God.
Pray for this spiritual legacy and lasting influence for grandmothers, that they will continue to live lives that inspire a legacy of godliness in their children and grandchildren.
Dear God,
Thank You for my grandmother! She has been a beautiful Christian example all of my life, living a consistent life of faith.
I pray that You would bless my grandmother with the joy of seeing her grandchildren walking in the truth. May she have hope and continue in faithful prayer even when she is not seeing those changes.
Please bless the good work of her hands as she serves You. May she leave a spiritual legacy that honors You!
