Sometimes, as Christians, we can take prayer for granted. It could be something that we say before a meal or bedtime, because it’s what we should do. Or we might say a prayer for a need we have, with little faith that the Lord will give us an answer.

These prayer points for a powerful prayer life are a great starting point for surrendering our prayer life to the Lord and asking Him to help us grow.

Prayer is one of the most important tools we have as a Christian to grow closer to the Lord! God can use it to equip us as we prepare to do His will. We have the privilege of talking to God, whether you’ve been a Christian for a day or for decades.

Each prayer point contains a Bible verse. The Bible reveals God’s heart to us, and praying through Scripture reminds us to be praying in line with what God wants. This isn’t always necessarily what we want!

Use these prayer points as a starting point for prayer in your quiet time, or pray through them with a Bible Study, Sunday School class, or other prayer gathering.

Pray for a heart that rejoices. “Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Ask God to help you be humble in prayer. “But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6

Pray to surrender your prayer requests to God. “In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance as you pray. “In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.” Romans 8:26-27

Pray to be faithful in repentance. “Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.” James 5:16

Ask God to help you see His answers to prayer. Psalm 145:18 WEBBE “The LORD is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”

Prayer for a Powerful Prayer Life

Dear God,

We are so thankful for the gift of prayer! The privilege of meeting You in prayer, wherever we are, whatever the circumstances, is yet another demonstration of Your love and compassion for us.

We pray that we would be faithful in prayer. May we rejoice in You, repent of our sins, and leave our prayer requests with You. May we be thankful for Your answers to prayer, even when they don’t match up with what we thought was the best way. We trust Your perfect will!

We love You, Lord!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
