Every Christian has a story about how they became a Christian, and how salvation through Jesus Christ has changed their life.
This is often referred to as a testimony, which means an account that serves as evidence or proof of what happened. Our testimony of what Jesus has done in our life is an important part of our Christian life.
Why should we share our stories and how can we share them with other people? These Bible verses for testimony sharing can be helpful as you consider and prepare your faith story to share with others.
We’ll also include helpful links to other resources about sharing your testimony, as well as a free printable with many of these Bible verses.
Bible Verses about Sharing Your Testimony
You may be asking why we need to share our testimony. There are many reasons, but here are two reasons that should matter to everyone.
The first reason is that if we think something is amazing or life changing, we will run to share it with others. We’ll tell our friends, family members, people on social media, and even random people at the store about a product or method or anything that makes a big difference in our lives.
Yet we may hesitate when the amazing, life changing factor in our lives is Jesus Christ. Why do we do that?
Maybe it’s because some have been told it’s impolite to talk about faith. Perhaps it’s feeling insecure about being able to answer other people’s curious or tricky questions about Christianity.
These Bible verses for testimony sharing will provide encouragement about why and how we share our testimony with others.
More importantly, the second reason we need to share our testimony is that the Bible tells us to do so, and we should obey God’s Word. God knows that we need to do this. We were given the duty to make disciples in Matthew 28:19.
”Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.“ Matthew 28:19
Part of making disciples for Jesus Christ will, at some point, involve sharing your testimony with others. It’s important to consider your testimony and prepare for it. Most people need to take some time to put their story into an easy to understand narrative.
Read on to be encouraged and inspired by these scriptures from the Word of God about sharing your testimony.
Psalm 66:16
“Come and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul.” Psalm 66:16
In our weakness, we often just consider present times and worry about the future. But have you considered what God has done for you in the past?
Whether you’ve been a Christian for a few weeks or a long time, you can talk about the ways that God has blessed us and gotten us through difficult times.
Mark 5:19
“He didn’t allow him, but said to him, ‘Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.’” Mark 5:19
In Mark chapter 5, a man who had been demon possessed was relieved of his demons by the power of Jesus. He then begged Jesus to allow him to go with Him. Jesus instead told him to stay. Why?
Jesus told the man to stay in the city and return to his people to tell his story. They had seen what he had been like. He was so out of control, unable to be bound even by chains. Jesus changed his life and drove out these evil spirits.
This man was probably unrecognizable from who he had been before. Jesus told him to share the amazing story of healing and mercy from Jesus Christ.
Maybe some people accepted Jesus and followed His teachings. We read in this passage and in a parallel account in Luke 8:37 that at least some of the people were afraid and asked the Son of God to leave.
Perhaps they were confused or scared and tried to forget what the man said, or came up with explanations that made sense to them. They didn’t want to accept what had happened.
We know that Jesus asked the man to testify about this story to others. The results of what happened from that testimony were up to the will of the Lord and the willingness of each person to accept these truths.
1 Peter 3:15
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15
The Apostle Peter wrote that it is important to be prepared to share your testimony with others. If your actions and speech reflect your relationship with Christ, it can stand out in this world. People might be curious why you are the way that you are.
Preparing your testimony so that you can present it with “humility and fear” is crucial. It is human to want to exalt yourself, but it is inappropriate to exalt yourself in your testimony about your relationship with Jesus Christ. This is another reason why preparing your testimony is so crucial.
Psalm 107:2
“Let the redeemed by the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.” Psalm 107:2 WEBBE
If someone saved your life, wouldn’t you tell others about it? Jesus saved our lives! We should tell others so they can experience the same hope and redemption that we have found in Christ.
John 15:26
“When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.” John 15:26
We aren’t on our own in our testimony. As Christians, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He will guide us throughout life, including in our testimony. He testifies to us in our hearts and He helps us in our testimony to others.
Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.” Acts 1:8
This Bible verse for testimony sharing again reminds us that the Holy Spirit helps us in sharing our faith. We receive power from Him as we witness wherever we are.
Matthew 24:14
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14 King James Version (KJV)
Some might refer to this Bible verse as “Until all have heard!” Even with all the improvements in communication and technology over the years, not everyone has heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This Scripture assures us that all the world will get a chance to hear the gospel before the Lord returns. There is still much work to do. Global Frontier Missions estimates the unreached people to be 42% of the world’s population.
Your testimony might be one that reaches someone who hasn’t had the chance to hear about the hope found in Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:16
“Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Our actions testify for us, giving others an idea of what (and Who) we stand for. Our righteous acts that we do for others can speak volumes to people. We are to be “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).
Doing good won’t earn us our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9), but they are the fruit of our faith (Colossians 1:10). Our good deeds might be the only interaction people have with us, and we get the chance to represent God with these kind actions.
This is especially a great way for someone who isn’t ready or equipped to share their spoken testimony to witness to others. It is also a way to witness in settings or even countries where you aren’t able to directly share your testimony.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Our testimony can reach people who have not started their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. But it can also be an encouragement to someone who is already a Christian, being part of the disciple-making process we read about in Matthew 28:19.
We share how God comforted us through our troubles, and remind others that God will be for them as well. We give evidence for this hope with our testimony of what God has done for us.
Psalm 96:3
“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.” Psalm 96:3
This psalmist knew what God had done for Israel for the sake of His name was amazing, and reminded them to share what He had done with others.
Romans 1:16
“For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, because it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.” Romans 1:16
This scripture tells us that we are not to be ashamed of the Gospel. One of the ways we can demonstrate that is to share our testimony with other people about God’s goodness and grace to us.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
We aren’t meant to be Christians on our own. One important way we connect with others is to be part of a Bible-believing church. It’s one of the best ways to encourage and edify one another.
This Bible verse reminds us to exhort and build each other up. One of the ways this can happen is by sharing our faith stories with one another, letting others know how much God had changed our lives.
Our testimony can “preach” a message to others that might stick with them, as stories can be easier to remember. Sometimes these are dramatic stories, but other times, they are demonstrations of God’s faithfulness over many years.
Now that we know the importance of sharing our testimony, let’s take a look at helpful Bible verses for sharing your testimony.
Bible Verses for Testimony Sharing
Everyone has their own story of how Jesus came in and changed their lives. Some might talk about how God saved them from addiction, a dangerous situation, or an over-the-top selfish life.
Others might have more “ordinary” stories, and might be reluctant to share them. They might have led a “good” life beforehand, and the life changes might not have been as dramatic. “Why would anyone want to hear my testimony? It’s nothing special.”
To answer that point, look at the typical court witness. Outside of expert witnesses, most are not called because of who they are. They are called because they were there when something noteworthy happened.
When Christ Jesus changes your life, it is noteworthy! You are redeemed in Him and find your hope in Him. You might not have a story full of personal experiences that could be turned into a movie, but you have a story that many people can relate to. Whether of a young or old age, you have a testimony.
Take a look at these Bible verses for testimony sharing and consider if one or a few of them might resonate with your testimony. Then be sure to check out the resources for shaping your testimony that follows this section.
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
This Scripture reminds us that none of us are good enough to reach God on our own. We need the saving grace we find in Jesus Christ to find forgiveness of sins.
John 17:3
“This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” John 17:3
Are you wondering how to share about what is truly important and truly lasting? John 17:3 reminds us that we find our eternal life in Jesus Christ.
Other philosophies, religions, or strategies might try to convince us of their way to significance or even immortality, but this can only be found in God.
Psalm 71:16
I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone. Psalm 71:16 NASB1995
This is a great Bible verse to help you prepare your heart for writing your testimony. We are prone to boast about ourselves, but that has no place in our testimony.
What has God done in your life? This can be a great way to introduce some of the ways that God has made a difference in your life.
Matthew 16:26
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?” Matthew 16:26
Does your testimony include times when you were building up an empire of sorts? This could be a time where you had the perfect job, relationship, family, social media, or whatever it might be.
This Bible verse points out that we can have everything in the world, everything we ever wanted, but if we don’t have our faith in Jesus Christ, we lose our life. Our life in Jesus Christ is the one worth pursuing. Let’s share how much Jesus changed our lives in that regard.
Colossians 1:10a, 12-14
“That you may walk worthily of the Lord…giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love, in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins.” Colossians 1:10a, 12-14
This passage describes how God provided our salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. We have been delivered from our life of sin and delivered into the family of God.
We then must “walk worthily of the Lord.” This can be a good way to transition to the part of your story where your life is different than before because of your relationship with Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:18-20
“Knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ, who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake.” 1 Peter 1:18-20
Before you came to know Christ personally, did you misunderstand who Jesus was and how to get to heaven? Many people do.
There are a lot of half truths based on misinformation. There’s also the fear-based logic that we would ever receive God’s mercy or grace.
This verse reminds us that we can’t pay our way into heaven or do anything else on our own, but to claim the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross as our redemption by having faith in Him. We are saved by the blood of the lamb.
Ephesians 2:8-9
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
If you have a testimony that you’ve deemed “ordinary,” it might be well-served by this verse. If the outward parts didn’t change too much because you were already doing the “right” things, but your heart changed because of God’s life changing grace, then this is a great verse to incorporate into your testimony.

Ephesians 2:8-9 is a part of my testimony. I was the good kid growing up, never doing anything really “too” bad. But no matter how good I was, I would never find salvation or a personal relationship in Christ without finding the grace of God.
My testimony is one of 40 personal testimonies included in Faith Storytellers, written & compiled by Mackenzie Ryan Walters.
The first part of this book describes a step-by-step process for preparing and shaping your personal story in a way that is easy to share as a testimony.
I didn’t formally go through this training, but when I was invited by Mackenzie to share my testimony on Faith Storytellers, it is apparent that she coached me through the process based on that method.
The second part of the book shares inspiring testimonies that can encourage you in your faith and in preparing your testimony.
The book feels like a get-together of Christians from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. I loved reading their stories and hearing the stories of God working in their lives. Some focused on relatable or “ordinary” circumstances, while others were stories of amazing miracles.
As with any get-together of Christians, you aren’t going to agree on every detail or come to the same conclusion on each issue. But overall, these testimonies point to salvation by Jesus Christ and the wonderful grace of God. It is an informative and encouraging book.

Another helpful resource for preparing your testimony is on the Navigators website. This article on How to Prepare Your Personal Testimony gives an abbreviated 3 step process and offers a useful worksheet.
Cru recommends a 5 part testimony in its article, What is a Christian Testimony. It bases this model off of Paul’s testimony in Acts 22.
