ACTS Prayer Devotional on Mercy: Powerful 4-Step Prayer

1 - ACTS prayer for mercy - acts prayer devotional

Prayer is one of the most beautiful ways we can draw near to God, and the ACTS prayer model—Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication—is a simple yet powerful structure to guide our conversations with Him. Let’s explore each step together in this ACTS prayer devotional and reflect on God’s presence in our lives.

ACTS Prayer Devotional: Focusing on God’s Mercy

Prayer can align our hearts with His, and helps us in seeking His guidance in every aspect of our lives. The ACTS Prayer Model provides a meaningful framework to help us focus and deepen this connection.

By dedicating time to adore God, confess our sins, give thanks, and present our requests, we approach Him with a humble and open heart, ready to experience His presence and power in new ways.

Read this ACTS prayer devotional to reflect on God’s wonderful mercy on us.

Adoration: Praising God’s Mercy

When we come before God, we begin by giving Him our adoration. His character is our foundation. Lamentations 3:22–24 reminds us:

“It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul. ‘Therefore I will hope in him.’”

Take a moment to meditate on God’s mercy. No matter what you face, His faithfulness sustains you each morning.

Reflection Questions for Adoration:

  • What attributes of God can you praise Him for today?
  • How have you experienced His mercy in your life recently?

Confession: Trusting in God’s Forgiveness

Sin can separate us from God, but confession is a way to set our hearts with Him. Psalm 32:5 says:

“I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

5 - Psalm 32 5 - acts prayer devotional

As believers, as we lay our sins at His feet and turn away from them, He forgives us completely. Take time to confess your struggles and receive His grace today.

Reflection Questions for Confession:

  • Is there anything you need to confess to God today?
  • How does reflecting on God’s forgiveness encourage you to live differently?

Thanksgiving: Gratitude for God’s Blessings

Gratitude transforms our perspective, even in difficult times. When we reflect on God’s blessings, our hearts overflow with thanksgiving. Consider some of the ways He blesses us:

  • His provision and protection.
  • His Word, which lights our path.
  • The promise of salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • The strength He gives us during trials.

Write down or speak aloud three specific things you are thankful for today. Gratitude shifts our focus from problems to God’s faithfulness.

Reflection Questions for Thanksgiving:

  • What blessings are you particularly thankful for today?
  • In what ways have you experienced God’s mercy in your life that you can be thankful for?

Supplication: Bringing Our Requests to God

Finally, we bring our needs and the needs of others before God, trusting Him to answer in His perfect timing. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us:

“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”

What’s on your heart today? If you aren’t sure what to pray for, you can pray for those who don’t know Christ, for God’s provision in challenging areas, or for a deeper love for His Word.

Reflection Questions for Supplication:

  • What burdens or needs can you surrender to God today?
  • Who in your life needs your prayers right now?
